Ellipsis Press read submissions from September 1 to November 15th, 2009.

____________________________________

Ellipsis Press is interested in novels that are structurally innovative.

We like: novels that look normal but aren’t (more than those that look weird but are actually quite normal); those that are successful at bypassing or evolving the seemingly necessary but often tired elements of character and/or plot; and those that respond in some way to the history of the novel as genre and form.

Writers who have studied the traditional elements of the novel and experimented with them to emotionally moving and/or extraordinary ends are invited to submit for publication.

Send your whole manuscript as a .rtf attachment by email only to submissions [at] ellipsispress [dot] com.

Feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself and your submission in your cover email. We don’t need a plot summary or chapter outline, but just a short paragraph saying what you’re up to might be a nice handshake. Simultaneous submissions are fine–but please let us know when you get accepted elsewhere. It’s best if your manuscript is one single file–not broken into several small files. There’s no minimum word-count, but if the manuscript is less than 40K words, the writing needs to be unusually efficient. If you submit your manuscript as an attachment to the above address during the open submission period, you will receive an automated email as a reply, which will serve as your confirmation that we did indeed receive your submission into our inbox. Along with our titles, a look here may give good indicators of the type of fiction we’re looking for.

We are not interested in flash fiction collections or non-fiction at this time. We have very limited patience for short story collections, but sometimes make an exception. Though we love poetry, we currently have no plans to publish it.

We thank you very much for sending your manuscript and respect the work that goes into each submission. Unfortunately due to time constraints we can respond only to those submissions we wish to pursue. These responses will be made in six months time.

Many thanks for your interest and support.
