Submissions will be open from February 15 to March 31, 2014.
Based in Queens, NY, Ellipsis Press is a publisher of avant-garde fiction. We’re interested in
innovative writers who have studied the traditional elements of the novel and skilfully experimented
with these to emotionally moving and extraordinary ends. We like novels that look normal but aren’t
(more than those that look weird but are actually quite normal), those that are successful at bypassing
or evolving the necessary but often tired elements of character and/or plot, and those that respond
in some way to the history of the novel as a genre and form. Please
see our catalog here: http://www.ellipsispress.com/catalog.
We will have an open reading period from February 15 to March 31, 2014.
To be notified of submission periods, upcoming titles and other news,
please join our mailing list or watch our blog or Facebook page.
How to submit:
1) Between 2/15/2014 and 3/31/2014 email your manuscript as a .rtf, .doc, or .pdf to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Include your name, manuscript title, and contact info in your cover email. Feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself and your submission in your cover email. We do not need a plot summary or chapter outline, but just a short paragraph saying what you’re up to might be a nice handshake. Simultaneous submissions are fine–but please let us know if you get accepted elsewhere. If you submit your manuscript as an attachment to the above address during the open submission period, you will receive an automated email as a reply, which will serve as your confirmation that we did indeed receive your submission into our inbox.
2) You may either publish a review of an Ellipsis Press title or pay a $15 reading fee with each submission.
Pay the $15 reading fee with the Paypal link below. (Subscribers need not pay the submission fee.) All money helps sustain Ellipsis Press and will go toward publishing innovative fiction. Alternatively, you may publish a review of any Ellipsis Press title somewhere public (e.g. on Goodreads, your personal blog, or at The New York Times) and we will waive the $15 fee. The review must have been originally published sometime between January 2013 and April 2014. Place either the link to your review or your Paypal transaction ID in the appropriate field when filling out the form below.
3) Please fill out the form below. Don’t forget to scroll to the bottom and hit “Submit” when finished.
Other details: For this submission period we are not interested in short stories collections, poetry, flash fiction, or non-fiction. We hope to respond within six months. We thank you very much for sending your manuscript and respect the work that goes into each submission. Many thanks for your interest and support.
